Professional Hemming Services – The Perfect Length, Fit & Finish

At Denim Revival, professional hemming is about more than simply shortening a garment. The right hem should complement the fit, preserve the character of the fabric, and create a clean, professional finish that looks like it belongs on the garment. Our experienced tailors provide precision hemming and alteration services in Las Vegas and Los Angeles for jeans, raw denim, vintage denim, dress pants, trousers, and many other garments.

Depending on the fabric, construction, and look you want to achieve, Denim Revival offers four main types of hemming: Regular Hem, Original Hem, Chain-Stitched Hem, and Invisible Hem. Each technique serves a different purpose, allowing us to select the appropriate finish for your garment and personal style.

Regular Hem

A Regular Hem is a classic and dependable way to shorten jeans, pants, and other garments. After determining the correct finished length, the excess fabric is removed as needed, the bottom edge is folded, and the new hem is professionally sewn.

This technique creates a clean, strong, and simple finish and is an excellent choice when preserving the garment’s existing factory hem is not necessary. We carefully match the thread, stitch placement, and hem width whenever possible so the finished alteration looks balanced and natural.

Regular hemming is ideal for everyday jeans, casual pants, chinos, workwear, and many other garments that need a precise adjustment in length.

Original Hem

Love the naturally faded, distressed, or wrinkled hem on your favorite jeans? Our Original Hem service allows you to shorten your jeans while preserving and reusing the original factory hem.

Instead of replacing the bottom with an entirely new hem, our tailors carefully work with the existing hem so the jeans retain more of their original worn-in appearance, fading, texture, and character.

This technique is especially valuable for vintage jeans, distressed denim, washed denim, and jeans with a distinctive factory finish. Years of washing and wear can create unique fading around the hem that can be difficult to reproduce. Preserving that detail helps the altered jeans maintain a more authentic appearance after shortening.

At Denim Revival, we believe that the small details matter—especially when working with denim that already has a story.

Chain-Stitched Hem

For denim enthusiasts, a Chain-Stitched Hem is one of the most distinctive and beautiful ways to finish a pair of jeans. Denim Revival performs chain-stitch hemming using a specialized chain-stitch sewing machine designed to create the characteristic looping stitch associated with traditional denim construction.

Chain stitching is especially popular for raw denim and selvedge denim jeans, where authentic construction and finishing details are an important part of the garment.

Beyond its traditional appearance, a chain-stitched hem looks particularly impressive when the jeans are cuffed or rolled at the ankle, revealing the distinctive chain pattern on the inside of the hem. It adds a subtle detail that denim enthusiasts immediately recognize.

As raw denim is worn and washed over time, the hem can also develop its own unique character and fading. For customers who appreciate traditional denim craftsmanship, a professionally executed chain-stitch hem provides the finishing touch that a premium pair of jeans deserves.

Invisible Hem

An Invisible Hem, also known as a blind hem, is designed for garments where visible stitching on the outside would interfere with a clean, formal appearance.

This technique is commonly used for dress pants, suit trousers, formalwear, skirts, dresses, and other tailored garments. The hem is carefully constructed so that the stitching is virtually invisible from the exterior of the garment.

The result is a clean, elegant and professional finish without a visible line of stitching running around the bottom. Invisible hemming is particularly important for dress trousers and formal garments, where even small finishing details can affect the overall appearance.

Which Hem Is Right for Your Garment?

Choosing the right hemming technique depends on the garment, fabric, original construction, and the look you want to preserve or create. A Regular Hem provides a clean and practical finish, while an Original Hem helps preserve the existing character of washed or vintage jeans. A Chain-Stitched Hem provides a traditional premium denim finish, particularly for raw and selvedge denim, while an Invisible Hem delivers the discreet finish preferred for dress pants and formal garments.

At Denim Revival, every garment is evaluated individually before alteration. Whether you’re shortening everyday jeans, preserving the original hem of a favorite vintage pair, finishing premium raw denim with authentic chain stitching, or adjusting the length of dress trousers with an invisible hem, our goal is the same: the correct length, a natural appearance, and craftsmanship that complements the original garment.
